After the arrival of Václav Jemelka, Viktoria Plzeň welcomes another new player to its squad. Twenty-four-year-old winger Erik Jirka, who comes as a free player, has signed a three-year contract with the West Bohemian club.
The Trnava Academy product has two championship titles to his credit, which he won in the 2017/2018 season in the jersey of the aforementioned Spartak and in the 2018/2019 competition year, when he became Serbian champion with Crvena Zvezda Belgrade. The Slovak international has also spent time with Gornik Zabrze in Poland and Spanish clubs Mirandes and Real Oviedo.
"He is a speed type of winger who fits perfectly into our way of playing. Moreover, Erik should have no problem adapting to the new environment, so he should quickly fit into our squad," said Viktoria head coach Michal Bílek about the transfer.
The quick-footed midfielder is one of the mainstays of the Slovak national team, in whose jersey he also played in the March friendlies against Norway and Finland. Against the Suomi national team, Jirka even decided the victory of his team by scoring a goal. He has also been a key player for the Slovak national team in the under-19 and under-21 teams.
Since we are facing a difficult autumn, both on the domestic and European scene, we have decided to strengthen our team with another very high quality player, which is undoubtedly the Slovak national player Erik Jirka. We have also received good references for the player from our assistant coach Marek Bakos, who met him as a player during his engagement in Trnava," said Adolf Šádek, the club´s CEO.
The player himself is also happy about the transfer. "Of course, I am looking forward to Pilsen. When my agent told me, I was very excited. To fight for the Champions League is a huge motivation for me as well as for all the players in Plzeň. I am ready to hit the games and help the team. I´ll do everything I can for it," the new acquisition of the red and blue colours revealed with enthusiasm.
"I would like to thank Viktoria and Mr. Šádek for this opportunity and for the very fast and fair negotiations. Erik is 100% ready and will do his best to help the team in Europe and in the domestic league, where it is equally important," said the player´s agent Adrian Lučan from AL Sport Management.
