FC Viktoria Plzeň travelled to the other side of the Czech Republic to face MFK Karviná in the 18th round. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for the Pilsen team. Both goals were scored by Pavel Šulc.
Sunday´s game started at a fast pace. Both teams showed similar gameplay. They focused on quick passing and high pressing to force the defense into mistakes. The first interesting situation from Viktoria came in the 9th minute. Matěj Vydra won the ball in the opponent´s half and set up a through pass for Erik Jirka. However, he mistimed his run and missed the goal opportunity. The scoreboard changed in the 14th minute. The home team was the first to score. The author of the goal was Amar Memic. The same player tried to increase the score once more, but his shot was well dealt with by Martin Jedlička.
Martin Jedlicka and Svetozar Markovic collided during a defensive standard situation. After this incident, the Pilsen defender was forced to substitute due to a possible concussion. Instead of Markovic, Lukáš Hejda came on the pitch. With his arrival, the Victorians threatened mostly from centred balls into the hexagonal territory. The most dangerous was the substitute Lukáš Hejda, who caused problems for the Karviná defence in standard situations. In one such chance he found himself in the 40th minute, when he took a centred ball from Lukáš Kalvach, but to our misfortune he missed it by a few centimetres. Before the end of the first half, Matěj Vydra also got a header, which just missed the goal.
In the second half, we got a nice combination from the Victorians, which lacked a goal. At the corner flag, Cheick Souaré and Lukas Kalvach exchanged the ball. The second Pilsen midfielder found Matej Vydra himself, who sent the ball straight at goal from a volley. However, the home team´s Lapeš prevented the result from changing. Moments later, Matěj Vydra again attempted an acrobatic finish with his scissors, but even this time the result was not successful.
Viktorka were much more on the ball in the second half and threatened mostly on the left side of the pitch, but everything was always thwarted by Lapeš. In the 70th minute, Daniel Vasulin worked the ball with his back to goal and pushed it through to the oncoming Pavel Šulc. However, he took the pass wrongly and the action ended in the arms of the goalkeeper again. Five minutes later, the Pilsen players finally got their chance. The attacking trio of Vasulin, Vydra and Šulc equalised at 1:1. The last of this trio scored a goal. Pavel Šulc reached inside the penalty area and cleared it into the net. In the last ten minutes of the game Viktorka could have scored again, but Daniel Vasulin missed the goal. Daniel Vašulín made up for his hesitation two minutes later when he sent Pavel Šulc behind the defence. He took the whole action on himself and finished his offensive escape behind the home goalkeeper. FC Viktoria Plzeň kept the lead until the end of the match and defeated MFK Karviná 2:1.
