Viktoria played their first tough game after the New Year in the Europa League. Its opponent was the Belgian Anderlecht. The match was decided by goals from Lukáš Červ and Prince Adu.
Viktoria could not have entered the seventh match of the Europa League league phase better. Already in the second minute they took the lead. Lukáš Červ picked up the ball on the edge of the hexagonal box and with a cross he beat the Anderlecht goalkeeper, who did not even react to his shot. Shortly afterwards, Plzeň had a huge opportunity. The main referee awarded a penalty kick after a foul on Lukáš Kalvach in the penalty area. Pavel Šulc was in charge of the penalty, but the Pilsen midfielder did not convert the chance. He sent his shot down the ground to the right, and goalkeeper Coosemans went the same way.
In the 24th minute, Martin Jedlička also made his first save. But the Belgian team´s attack ended with a shot straight into the gloves of the wizard in the Pilsen goal. The big chance came five minutes before the end of the first act. Prince Adu brilliantly lobbed the visitors´ goalkeeper, but the ball ended up on the top bar. It only bounced off the goal line and was then cleared by the Anderlecht defence. Viktoria went into the cabins with a two-goal lead.
In the fifty-sixth minute, Lukáš Kalvach´s centre reached Sampson Dweh, who tried to finish with a volley. His shot went wide of the goal. Viktoria continued to deny their opponents any more chances. It was they who were constantly threatening. With 14 minutes to go, Prince Adu again had a huge chance. He took a wraparound shot, but his shot ended up on the post again. This time it hit the right post.
In the eighty-second minute, Lukas Kalvach played a standard situation. His centre found the head of Václav Jemelka, who hit only the Anderlecht goalkeeper. The Red and Blues didn´t let their opponents do anything in the end. Viktoria defeated their Belgian opponents 2-0 at home and confirmed their qualification to the knockout stage of the Europa League!
