Viktoria Plzeň recorded a winning performance in their pre-season friendly. Thanks to goals from Kabongo, Červ and Vašulín, they defeated SønderjyskE 3–1, building a two-goal lead in the first half and maintaining control after the break.
The match kicked off with the visitors in possession. Already in the 2nd minute, Amar Memić broke down the right flank, but his cross went just wide of the goal. Plzeň quickly built early pressure and earned several corner kicks, though none of them resulted in a goal. In the 12th minute, Kabongo collected a loose ball, took on the defence and curled a beautiful shot that struck the post. Moments later, however, Viktoria found the breakthrough — another cross from the wing was once again met by Kabongo, who calmly finished into the net. Viktoria then controlled the game for about ten minutes, allowing the opposition very little. In the 23rd minute, Kabongo won the ball high up the pitch, switched play to Amar Memić, whose cross found Lukáš Červ. He placed his shot neatly inside the post to make it 2–0. Another Viktoria attack was led by Doski, who released Kabongo into space, but his shot was blocked. Lukáš Červ then tried his luck with a curling effort, but the ball missed the target. No further major chances followed before the break, and Viktoria went into half-time with a 2–0 lead.
The second half was more cautious, with several substitutions on both sides slowing the tempo of the game. Plzeň looked to keep possession and control proceedings, while the visitors threatened mainly on the counter-attack. One of those breaks paid off in the 52nd minute, when the opposition got through on goal, beat Wiegele and reduced the score to 2–1. Viktoria stayed composed and continued to push forward. In the 72nd minute, the visitors broke through again, but Wiegele produced an excellent save to deny a clear chance. In the closing stages, the home side increased their activity to secure the result, which they managed to do in the 89th minute when Daniel Vašulín found the net to seal the final score.
Viktoria will next turn their attention to a major European test next week, when they host Portuguese side Porto at the home stadium in the UEFA Europa League. Don’t miss the chance to support the team from the stands — tickets for the match are available HERE.
