The MOL Cup quarter-final in Karviná did not go Plzeň’s way. The home side built their lead in the first half and added a third goal after the break. Despite increased activity in the second half, Viktoria were unable to reduce the deficit.

The home side kicked off the quarter-final match. In the 4th minute, Souaré sent a cross towards Vašulín, but his header was blocked by the defence for a corner. The following corner did not bring any real danger. In the 10th minute, Vašulín had a huge chance after Ladra found him with a precise cross in the box, but the Viktoria forward narrowly missed the target. A few minutes later the game was briefly interrupted when Vinícius fouled Kadlec, who required treatment but fortunately continued without any serious injury. Karviná threatened in the 18th minute, but a cross from the right side ended only in the side netting. In the 24th minute the home side took the lead. Ladra tried his luck in the 36th minute, but his shot went wide. Moments later the same player found the ball again in the penalty area, though he was unable to finish properly and the action resulted in a corner kick. In the 38th minute Viktoria had a huge opportunity. First Souaré shot and then Krčík tried to finish the rebound, but both attempts were saved by the home goalkeeper. The well-known rule “if you don’t score, you concede” then applied. In the 39th minute Karviná struck again and doubled their lead. Červ’s attempt in the 45th minute did not trouble the goalkeeper, who dealt with it comfortably. Nothing significant happened before the break and the home side went into the dressing room with a two-goal advantage.

Several substitutions were made at the start of the second half. New signing Mohamed Touré also came on, making his first appearance in a Viktoria shirt. In the 48th minute Hrošovský’s long ball found the advancing Sojka, but the home goalkeeper rushed out in time and cleared the ball to safety. In the 53rd minute Kadlec got his head to the ball in the box, but his effort went straight at the goalkeeper, who pushed it away. Another dangerous moment came from a corner in the 58th minute when Dweh headed the ball, but the score remained unchanged. Viktoria gradually increased the pressure, yet they struggled to break through Karviná’s deep defensive block. In the 67th minute Valenta finished from a promising position after Sojka’s cross, but he sent the ball over the bar. In the 76th minute the home side scored again and increased their lead to three goals. Another scramble in front of Karviná’s goal came in the 81st minute, but the home defenders managed to block all attempts. Karviná then comfortably saw out the remainder of the match and Viktoria’s journey in the domestic cup came to an end.
