Viktoria Plzeň set off for another match in the Europa League. This time, they faced AS Roma in Rome. Viktoria defeated AS Roma with two goals and took three points home from the Italian capital. Prince Adu and Cheick Souaré scored the goals.
The Victorians didn't have much time to settle in, as their Roman opponents immediately went on the attack. Martin Jedlička had to intervene in the 2nd minute, but Artem Dovbyk's shot was not dangerous for him. The West Bohemian team did not lag behind and put pressure on the Italian defense. In the 8th minute, Ladra, Červ, and Adu played a successful combination. The first passed the ball to Lukáš Červ, who crossed it to the unmarked Prince Adu, who immediately shot at the goal.
In the 21st minute, Prince Adu made his presence felt again when he won a personal duel, dribbled the ball into the penalty area, and shot uncompromisingly past the goalkeeper. The fans in the visiting section had not yet calmed down from the goal euphoria when they had another reason to cheer. Cheick Souaré kicked the ball in front of him and sent a powerful shot that the goalkeeper had no chance of saving. AS Roma, surprised by two quick goals, struggled to get into the game, and so the first half ended 2-0 for Viktoria.
At the start of the second half, the game swung from side to side. Both teams created promising chances, so Martin Jedlička had to be constantly alert. He saved his team several times with excellent saves. However, in the 53rd minute, there was an unfortunate moment in the Plzeň penalty area. Václav Jemelka handled the ball and the referee awarded a penalty. Experienced Argentine striker Paulo Dybala stepped up and reduced the deficit to one goal.
From that moment on, the match picked up even more pace. There were many personal battles, and neither team gave an inch. Head coach Martin Hyský made several changes during the second half. Denis Višinský, Svetozar Marković, Milan Havel, Adrian Zeljković, and James Bello took to the field. Viktoria did an excellent job of resisting Roma's pressure and even managed to trouble their opponents several times. The decisive moment came in the second minute of stoppage time, when Martin Jedlička saved a dangerous header, securing victory in Rome.
