Viktoria Plzeň welcomed Slovan Liberec in their first home league match. Before the match, actors from the J. K. Tyl Theatre performed the club anthem. The match ended in victory for Viktoria 3:2. Milan Havel, Prince Adu and Svetozar Marković scored for the home team.
The Victorians entered the match actively, which soon brought them the desired fruit, when in the 9th minute Milan Havel split the net after a beautiful shot and proved his current shooting phase. The Red and Blue fans did not wait long for another goal when Prince Kwabena Adu gave them a reason to rejoice two minutes after the first goal was scored. First, he did not convert his raid on the visiting goalkeeper, but after a scuffle and confusion between the defending players of Liberec Slovan, the ball floated out in front of Adu again and the striker with the number 80 on his back made no mistake in front of an empty net this time. The visitors soon added a contact goal, but it didn´t change the course of the game and Viktoria kept pushing for more scoring chances. Despite the promising chances, both teams went to the booths with a score of 2:1.
The second half started with an attempt by the blue-and-white visitors to equalise, but the chances created were liquidated by the home defence. In the 66th minute it was a happy return to home soil for Raffi Durosinmi, who made his first appearance at the Doosan Arena in 16 months. An equaliser came soon after, but only encouraged the home side´s attacking efforts. This pressure then resulted in a foul that VAR ruled as a goal scoring opportunity being prevented, which was rewarded with a red card for the visitors´ goalkeeper. This sparked a conflict on the Liberec bench and the atmosphere on the pitch was also stormy, which brought a lot more combativeness to the game. In the 88th minute, however, the Doosan Arena erupted in euphoria when Svetozar Markovic made no mistake with a left-footed shot from a volley at the back post to score his first goal in a red and blue jersey. And it was the winning goal as well, as Viktoria defended for the full eight minutes and won 3:2 against Slovan Liberec after a thrilling battle.
