Viktoria Plzeň travelled to Rome for the return leg of the Europa League semi-final against Lazio. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, which means the end of our journey in Europe.

Early in the match, Sampson Dweh received a yellow card after an illegal intervention and the Italian team played a standard situation, which the Victorians defended. The head referee also gave a yellow card to home defender Adam Maručić. In the 5th minute, after a combination action inside the opponent´s penalty area, captain Lukas Kalvach fired a hard shot from the first, but goalkeeper Provedel pulled the ball out of the net.

In the 12th minute, Provedel committed a bad play and passed the ball directly to Matej Vydra, but unfortunately he only hit the goal frame. Ten minutes later, the home team threatened when Pedro got a shot off, but his attempt was brilliantly saved by Martin Jedlička.

Just before the end of the first half, the Victorians created another promising chance. After a centre by Amar Memic, the ball deflected to Matej Vydra, whose shot was blocked by the defence. At the end of the first half, Lukáš Červ shot again, but Provedel easily dealt with his attempt. The game went to the booths with a scoreless 0:0.

At the beginning of the second half, Pedro had another promising opportunity, but the Pilsen goalkeeper was again more successful in his duel with Martin Jedlička. In the 52nd minute, Rafiu Durosinmi played a centred ball to Pavel Šulc, who did not refuse the offer and sent Viktoria into the lead. The total score of the double match was thus levelled at 2:2.

In the 71st minute, coach Miroslav Koubek decided to make his first substitution, replacing Rafiu Durosinmi with Prince Adu. Five minutes later Lazio managed to equalise at 1-1 after a corner kick. Merchas Doski, Alexandr Sojka, Jan Kopic and Jiri Maxim Panos also intervened.

Despite the Victorians´ best efforts, they failed to turn the game around and so the beautiful Europa League journey ends in Rome.
