Viktoria Plzeň played against Baník in the last match before the national break. The match ended in a 0:1 victory.
Sunday´s duel between Viktoria and Baník was watched by a sold-out Doosan Arena. Both teams were aware of the importance of the match and did not give each other a single meter on the court. The game was played mostly in the midfield. In the 23rd minute, Patrick Kpozo sent a centre into the penalty area, where Erik Prokop scored with a header to send Baník into a 0:1 lead.
In the 33rd minute, Viktoria played a standard situation. Captain Lukáš Kalvach was on the ball and sent an overhit centre to the back post. There, Václav Jemelka was waiting for the ball, but his header went over the opponent´s goal. In the first half, the fans did not see any major scoring opportunities from either team, and so it was the visitors from Ostrava who went to the stands more satisfied.
The second half started similarly to the first. Viktoria had the ball more often and tried to break through Ostrava´s defensive block. In the 59th minute, the first lineup change took place. Miroslav Koubek, the coach, sent Daniel Vasulin on the pitch to replace Matej Vydra. Five minutes later, Rafiu Durosinmi got a scoring opportunity, shooting from a turn at the back post, but the Ostrava goalkeeper deflected his shot for a corner kick.
Viktoria made several more substitutions during the match. First, Prince Adu came on for Lukáš Červ, then Jan Kopic and Milan Havel, who returned after illness. The Red and Blues tried to turn the result in their favour. Daniel Vasulin had two promising chances, but failed to get the ball into the net on both occasions. Viktoria Plzeň lost to Baník 0:1.
