Viktoria Plzeň welcomed Dukla Prague to the Doosan Arena in the last round of the regular season. The match ended in a 4:2 victory for the Red and Blue, which secured Viktoria the second place for the extra-curricular part of the competition.
Today´s game had a festive feel to it as it was dedicated to the Freedom Celebration. Therefore, before the opening whistle, there was a ceremony during which three war veterans were honoured, the national anthem was played and the fans prepared an impressive choreo.
The Victorians did not enter the match happily. After a rebound inside the whitewash, the visiting Martin Ambler got to the ball and shot into the uncovered net to open the scoring. However, the Red and Blues were not caught off guard and quickly took the initiative. Their pressure paid off as they equalised at 1-1 after a beautiful shot by Cadua.
The equalising goal galvanised Viktoria and the home side started to create more dangerous chances. Sampson Dweh came close to scoring but his header just missed the top bar. He was followed up by Rafiu Durosinmi but failed to get the ball into the net after a pass from Amar Memic. The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when Viktoria increased the score to 2-1 after a neat combination of Pavel Šulc, Lukáš Kalvach and Durosinmi. It was Durosinmi who finished with ease into the open net. There were no more key moments in the first half, so the referee ended the half at 2:1.
Durosinmi had another opportunity early in the second half, but his shot just missed the target. However, the home side did score. Captain Lukáš Kalvach, who played his 250th competitive match for Viktoria, celebrated this milestone with a goal to make it 3-1.
The second half was completely in Plzeň´s control. Only a little luck was needed for the next goals. Prince Adu, who returned to the field after an injury, had a great chance, but his attempt just missed the goal. A few minutes later, however, he scored an assist when, after a successful one-on-one duel, he passed underneath to Matej Vydra, who confirmed his shooting form with another goal.
At the very end Dukla reduced the deficit after a misunderstanding in the home defence. The chance was taken by former Plzeň player Jhon Mosquera, who did not celebrate his goal out of courtesy to his former club. The match ended in a 4:2 victory and Viktoria enters the extra-leg from the second place in the table.
