ktoria Plzeň defeated Sparta 4:2. At the post-match press conference, head coach Miroslav Koubek answered the questions of journalists.
How was today´s victory born? Was it a frantic game for you?
It may have been a frantic game, but it was a beautiful game. Six goals scored, up and down the field. We tried to be as high up as possible. Sparta had a better start to the game, which is probably the only thing I can criticize the team for. Otherwise, we were dangerous enough and very good in transition. Our performance was not without mistakes, but the important thing is that we had the energy to play what we are capable of. We had a motto that we wanted to give a performance like in Europe and bring it to Letná, which we did.
Did you put in another European performance today?
I keep saying that, I have great guys. Football is sometimes better, sometimes worse, but this team has character. They were down, turned it around at 2-1, got a goal at 2-2 and still managed to go up again to 4-2. We never give up, we just have to have it.
How does it feel to have beaten Sparta twice in a season?
It was hard. Sparta came at us from the beginning, which I warned the players before the game. It was a very intense game. Today´s match was more open, very attractive for the spectators. In Plzeň it was a more tactical game with only one goal, while today it was much more offensive and more interesting for the spectators.
How do you value these three points? How did you prepare for the match?
I´m not afraid to say they were the key points. If we hadn´t won, we would have practically lost the chance to fight for second place. Ostrava, Sparta and us are all trying to win it. If we hadn´t won today, Sparta would have been five points behind us, Ostrava four, and we would have had a very difficult time. So from a mathematical point of view, this is an extremely valuable victory.
What to say about Durosinmi´s performance?
He is at a high level, which is getting higher with every game. His main strength is in the penalty area, outside of that he´s still a bit lacking, but what can I accuse him of when he scores two goals? (laughs) Some players don´t get the ball for the whole game and then they come through. Rafiu always has to get into the game, but he´s a goalscorer, he can finish, and he showed it again today.
