Viktoria Plzeň defeated Bohemka 3:1 in the quarterfinals of the MOL Cup and advanced to the top four teams of the domestic cup. At the post-match press conference, assistant coach Jan Trousil answered the questions of the journalists.
Jan Trousil (match summary):
We came with the goal of advancing, which we did. Bohemka was well prepared, they let us play and waited for mistakes in the transition phase. They had Pleshtil and Drchal, who are extremely fast, on the flank and relied on breakaways. We had twenty minutes where we controlled the game and hit the crossbar. We had about two more promising situations, but as the first half progressed we lost the ball in the middle of the pitch, which Bohemka used for their counter-attacks. We said something at half-time and we emphasized on being safer in the defensive phase. After we scored, we thought we had won the game, but unfortunately there was an unlucky moment and we got the equalising goal. However, after that we fought for the penalty with patience and I have to praise the boys for handling the standard situations that prevented Bohemka from getting the equaliser. Then came the reward in the form of the third goal, which rewarded the boys for their performance.
Were you nervous at Pavel Šulc´s penalty?
I was not nervous. Šulcík kicks ten or fifteen penalties after every training session, he tries different variations of how to kick them, and it works for him. So when he goes to kick it, we´re confident that the goal will fall. If it doesn´t, we move on.
What do you think about Viktor Baier´s performance?
Viki is a young goalie who is gaining valuable experience. He is a great talent. He showed us last season what kind of goalkeeper he is growing into. He helped us in Europe when he didn´t shy away from the game against Dinamo Zagreb. He also played a few games in the league. The last time was against Zlín, where he was very confident. Such a situation can happen. I appreciate how the boys helped him and turned the result to our side. So the mistake will bite much better. It´s up to the goalie coaches to figure it out. Again, he´s a young kid and this is part of it, everyone has to go through it. We believe it will make him stronger. This kind of situation can happen to experienced players. Nobody will condemn him, on the contrary, we will all support him.
How do you expect the game to go on Sunday?
Bohemia has a great environment. Everything is close, the atmosphere is boisterous. We knew what to expect here. I think it will be a tough game again. We´ll see what formation they come up with, because today they started with 3-4-3. On Sunday, we expect them to use the players they had today. Cermak has recovered, which will strengthen the quality of the midfield. But I believe we will be solid. We might also go back to the position of the players we have in the league. Our goal was promotion and the next goal is to keep second place until the 30th round so we are in a good position for the extra time. We have achieved the first goal, now we want the second one too, but we respect the strength of Bohemia, who have quality players, coaching staff and are not playing badly at all. We have three days to prepare for this.
