Viktoria Plzeň defeated Slovácko 2:0 and moved up to second place in the league table. At the post-match press conference, head coach Miroslav Koubek answered questions from journalists.
Coach, was the path to victory ideal for you or could it have been handled better?
Not everything goes smoothly. The important thing is the three points. After the win against Sparta, it was necessary to win today. If we hadn´t managed to do that, we would have devalued the result. So our primary goal was to win and move into second place. We scored two goals in the first half thanks to our overall activity. We were probably the better team. I also have to commend the defensive effort. We did it both in normal play and in standard situations. Slovácko, if I´m not mistaken, didn´t shoot on goal. Although they had a certain advantage at one point, they couldn´t force their way through, which I appreciate.
Do you believe you won´t let second place go?
That´s a premature calculation. We have to focus on the next game. Going step by step to reach our goal. We all know how to count and we all know what the point difference is. A lot can still change.
Does it help you to focus only on the domestic competition, because the players have the strength to get into scoring situations in the 90th minute?
We are definitely more energetic and with more intensity now. The data shows that, and that´s absolutely fine. It´s good for us. Now there will be some English weeks again if we advance in the cup, which is also our wish. That would get us back into the mode we have already experienced.
You now have two games at Bohemka, how difficult will that be for you?
It will be extremely difficult. Playing at Bohemka in their specific environment is no walk in the park, but we will prepare for it and we will want to succeed. Just like today, when it wasn´t an easy game either. There was a change of coaches, the team pulled together and pushed us, and that´s why I really appreciate today´s victory. The fight at Bohemka will also be very difficult because they are a strong team.
